One Night Stand

“You’re a selfish bitch.”
“Thank you.” She grinned and drank some more wine. “And salute to you too.”
“Whatever.” I shook my head and walked away from her, my head thudding as I joined Alice again.
“What’s going on?” She asked softly as I sat down with her. “What did she say?”
“She’s not pregnant.” I said in a daze. “She’s not pregnant, Alice.”
“No way.” She looked at me with a shocked expression. “So she lied.”
“Yes, she lied to all of us.” I rubbed my forehead and closed my eyes for a second.
“Are you okay, Liv?” Alice grabbed my hands and I opened my eyes slowly and nodded.
“Yeah, I’m okay.”
“You don’t look fine.”
“It’s just something she said, it got me thinking.”
“What’s that?”
“I’m not on the pill.”
“So?” Alice shrugged. “Does that matter?”
“I had sex with Xander.”
“So? He used condoms right?”
“Not the last couple of times.” I shook my head and buried my face in my hands and groaned. “How could I be such an idiot Alice? He came in me several times.” I whined and then looked up at her. “Gabby’s not pregnant, but what if I am?”
“What do you want to do?”
“Let’s go home.”
“To your parents’ house?”
“No, let’s go to the apartment.”
“Don’t you want to tell Xander what you found out?”
“No.” I shook my head and stood up. “He made his decision. He can deal with the mess that his business transaction makes. That’s his problem.”
“Oh Liv.” Alice sighed. “Promise me one thing though.”
“What?”
“Take a pregnancy test.”
“I’ll get one this week.” I nodded and we left some cash on the table and then walked out of the restaurant to the sound of Gabby and her friends laughing. I didn’t know what to think or feel. A part of me wanted to be pregnant and the other part of me was scared stiff that I was. I wanted to tell Xander the truth so badly, but I didn’t want to be the one that told him. I didn’t want to be the girl that was chasing him and forcing him to be with me. That was no way to start a relationship. No way at all.
Chapter Thirteen
There was a big brown package sitting on my bed when I got home from work and I looked at it with a curious expression. Who was sending me a package? It wasn’t my birthday and I hadn’t ordered anything online in ages. I walked over to it eagerly, excited to see what was inside. I smiled to myself at my excitement. It was the first time in over two weeks I’d had anything to feel excited about. Alice and I hadn’t gone back to my parents’ house after the bar and no one had called or tried to find out what had happened.
I was sad that my family didn’t even bother to find out why we’d left, but I was even more hurt that Xander hadn’t called me or come over. I’d hoped that he’d show up that evening, but he hadn’t. I didn’t even know if he knew that there was no baby. I was confident Gabby wouldn’t tell him. She had no morals and no conscience. She wouldn’t care. I sat on the bed and opened the package quickly, ripping it open to see what was inside. I opened the box and stared at the contents with a frown. There was a tongue sitting there. I picked it up and then saw the note. It was from Xander and it read “Please call me soon. I want to talk to you.” I threw the note and the tongue on the bed and hurried out of the room. Did he think that was funny? I walked to the kitchen to get some water and tried to calm my rapidly beating heart.
“Hey, I didn’t hear you come in.” Alice said with a small smile as she walked into the kitchen.
“Yeah, just got in.” I said and took another sip of water. “I saw the package. Thanks for putting it in my room.”
“No worries.” She nodded. “Anything good?”
“No.” I shook my head and then frowned as my phone rang. “It’s Aiden.” I rolled my eyes at her and answered the phone. “Hello.”
“Liv, its Aiden.” He said stiffly.
“I know, what do you want?”
“Are you coming home this weekend?”
“Nope.”
“I think you should come.” He said again, softer this time. “Gabby needs your support.”
“Why?” I said shortly.
“Xander broke off the engagement.”
“Really?” I said surprised, though I didn’t want to admit it. I also didn’t want to admit how happy that made me. “Why?”
“I guess it wasn’t a real engagement.” He sighed. “I think she was up to her old tricks or something.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, she’s not really pregnant, but she’d lied and said she was having this baby and really needed support.”
“Oh? Wow.” I faked shock.
“Yeah, turns out he asked her if they could break it off that first weekend.” Aiden continued talking. “He thought he’d made a mistake or something, but she told him mom and dad would disown her if she wasn’t engaged. And that she’d move to France or something and take the baby with her.”
“Oh wow.” I shook my head. “That’s crazy.”
