“Fuck.”
“Yeah, fuck,” I snap back. “I can’t believe you gave it to him, Brooks.” On the way to the hospital, Nix told me about Brooks hooking him up.
“Can we not have this conversation,” Nix moans next to me.
“I don’t know how long we’re going to be, so can you check on Jesse for us?”
“Yeah, I’ll call him,” Brooks agrees, and I feel a little bad that his night with Kelly is messed up, but at least he’s not in Nix’s position.
“Thanks, I’ll keep you posted.” I hang up and sit back down to wait for the doctor.
“I can’t believe you took it. What were you thinking, Nix?”
“I don’t know why you’re pissed. It’s my cock,” Nix moans. The longer his hard-on stays, the more in pain he seems to be.
“You’re right. It’s your dick that’s gonna have to get a fucking needle in it,” I snap. I’m not sure what I’m really angry at; the fact Nix thought he needed a pill to get hard to have sex with me, or that our date is over. I think more that our amazing date is over.
After taking me over the pool table and again on the floor, we spent the evening talking, eating and playing pool. It was as if time had never moved between us. We talked about the past, the kids, how far we had come. We made promises that we would make more time for ourselves. We shared our fears and talked of what our future holds. We laughed. I cried. We made love and vowed to always come back to each other. We connected on a level we never had before and I finally felt like we had found each other again. Then after all of that, when the sun was threatening to rise, when our children would soon be waking, Nix took me again. Only instead of ending our perfect night making love, something went terribly wrong.  Now, sitting in ER with a raging hard-on that won’t go away, my husband waits for news I don’t think he’s prepared for.
“You don’t have to remind me.” He holds out his hand, waiting for me to take it.
“Oh, I don’t think you have to worry about that, Nix. I’m sure the boys will have that sorted.” I snort, knowing if word gets around to Jesse, Nix will never live this shit down.
“Kadence, I was only trying to make it good for you, baby,” he explains and I don’t have anything to say to that. It’s always been good. He definitely doesn’t need it, but I know that my insecurities, helped fuel his, so I can’t blame him.
“Mr. Knight?” An older male doctor walks in before I can respond.
“Yep, that’s me.” Nix nods, trying not to let the pain show over his face.
“Why, Mr. Knight, are you happy to see me?” The doctor looks down at my husband’s cock. I try not to let it affect me; try to look away, but one look at Nix’s face and the laughter comes. I’m a bad person, laughing at the inappropriate joke the old doctor cracks, but I can’t help it.
“Shut your mouth, woman,” Nix warns, not one bit impressed. I cover my mouth to mask the snort and watch him turn back to face the older man.
“So, what seems to be the problem?” the doctor asks, looking down at his chart.
“I think my wife broke my cock, Doc.” The room fills with laughter while Nix groans in pain.
“For that comment, I will tell Jesse,” I tease, not really meaning it.
“Do it and I will spank you,” he growls through his pain and just like that, Nix and Kadence are back. We might have had a long way to go, sitting in an ER room with a broken dick, but that didn’t matter. None of it mattered, because Nix had me, and I had Nix. We had come full circle. We struggled and we fell, but we did it with an unconditional love. We came back to each other when it was all said and done.
Our love wasn’t a fight, but something worth fighting for.
We would always be something worth fighting for.
EPILOGUE
Kadence
Six Months Later
“Do you remember that time Nix broke his dick?” Jesse asks, causing everyone to start laughing.
“Shut the fuck up, Jesse.” Nix growls beside me while I try to hold in my laugh.
“What? It was ages ago.” He ignores his prez’s death stare and continues to tell his new woman the story of how Nix ended up in the hospital after taking Viagra.
“You should have seen it, babe. So fucking bad. Had to get that shit drained.”
Bell, Jesse’s new woman, laughs next to him causing Nix to stand up.
“It was Kadence’s fault.” He points down to me, and a grin spreads across his face. “She broke it, not me.”
“I did not!” I half shout and half laugh at the ridiculous conversation we are having.
We’ve just finished dinner, one of our monthly family dinners where all the guys from the clubhouse come over and devour my lasagna. Everyone came over tonight: Sy, Holly and baby X, Kelly and Brooks, Jesse and his woman Bell—even Beau turned up with a smile.
“Admit it. Your pussy broke my dick.” He folds his arms across his chest and the guys all snort.
“Well, if you didn’t have problems getting it up…” I leave the statement hanging as the air goes dangerously quiet.
“Did she just say that?” Brooks asks the table, but I can’t answer cause Nix slowly turns to face me. My eyes lock onto his narrowed ones and I know I shouldn’t have gone there.
“You will pay for that.” He steps forward and I push back my chair trying to escape.  “Everyone out. Now. I need to teach my wife a lesson.” He snags me around the waist, heaves me out of the chair and throws me over his shoulder.
