He sniffed at her and kept walking. “No mate and I smell no male. Mine!”
“Vengeance!” Smiley snarled. “Release that female.”
The big New Species who held her spun fast enough to make Zandy dizzy. “No!” The bald Species snarled louder than Smiley had, showed some sharp teeth and spun back around to carry her away from the building. “Get your own. This one is mine.”
Something hit the man in the back and he stumbled. Another snarl came from him and he dropped Zandy gently to her feet, let go of her and turned to face Smiley. “She’s mine!”
“She isn’t.” Smiley tried to reach her but the bald Species shoved him.
“Get your own. I found her and I’m keeping her.”
Creek pulled Zandy back until her body was between her and the bald man. Richard came to stand near them, watching the confrontation go down. Smiley was in great shape, tall, but the bald New Species was thicker chested and had beefier arms.
“She’s human,” Smiley tried to explain. “She’s not Species. She’s not really in heat. It’s just ovulation to her. She doesn’t need a male, Vengeance.”
“You lie and want her yourself.” Vengeance snarled. “Mine.”
“Shit.” Smiley cursed. “You can’t take her.”
Zandy was horrified as her escort was grabbed and tossed about six feet in the air to land on the grass. Creek growled and shook her head at the man who stomped closer.
“No, Vengeance. She’s not for you.”
“Move, female.”
Creek snarled and tried to push him back. It happened fast as Vengeance spun Creek and carefully put her on her ass behind him. Richard lunged to put his body between Zandy and the advancing New Species but he didn’t stand a chance. Vengeance just shot his palm out flat and hit her coworker in the chest. It knocked Richard about four feet back until he landed hard on his ass.
“Mine. I won’t harm you. Don’t fear me.” The bald man advanced at Zandy.
Someone landed between them. Tiger leaped between them and crouched just inches in front of her. She was shocked at how he’d gotten there. She’d never seen anything like it and the snarl he let loose in warning was terrifying.
“Don’t, Vengeance.”
“Mine!” The bald Species snarled back and flashed his sharp teeth.
Tiger’s voice came out harsh. “Don’t do it, Vengeance. We’ll fight to the death. You aren’t taking her.”
Tiger reached back and gently pushed Zandy, nudging her belly. She backed up, her heart pounding, wondering if they were really going to fight.
“She’s not mated and smells of no other male.”
“Damn it, Vengeance. Go. Now. I will kill you if you leave me no choice.”
“Mine,” the bald Species snarled as he tried to get around Tiger to reach Zandy. Tiger tackled him. Both of them landed hard on the ground and the fight was brutal as fists were exchanged.
“Stop it!” Zandy frantically looked for help. More officers rushed out of the hotel and a few of them approached but stayed back from the two men on the ground. Creek stood and rushed to Zandy’s side.
“See? They fight for you to show you who is more dominant. Which one do you hope will win? That is so sexy, isn’t it?”
Zandy’s mouth fell open in stunned disbelief. “Damn it, stop them! I don’t want them to fight and it’s horrible.”
Creek snapped her head around to stare at a few of the other New Species. “Stop them, officers. You heard her. She isn’t impressed.”
The sight of Tiger and Vengeance fighting was vicious. They punched hard, rolled on the ground trying to pin each other and the sounds they made were animalistic. One of the officers tried to break it up but Tiger kicked out at him, making him jump out of the way.
Jeeps rushed to the scene and locked up their brakes as more uniformed officers arrived. Zandy hoped they’d break up the fight but they just stood there watching. She bit her lip and frantically grabbed Creek.
“Stop them. Please?”
The Species female sighed. “Okay. This is normal though. Males fight and you should be impressed by it.” She lifted her hand and signaled to the new arrivals. She made a fist with her hand before opening her fingers and bringing them down flat in the air.
One of the males grimly nodded. A few second later he and his partner lunged at Vengeance when Tiger threw him off his body. They grabbed his arms behind his back and a third officer planted his big body between him and Tiger.
“Enough, Tiger.”
Tiger rose to his feet and snarled but he didn’t attack. He was breathing hard and had a cut on his cheek. His shirt was torn from the fight and the officer he faced looked foreboding as they watched each other.
“We have him. We’ll return him to the Wild Zone.”
“Thanks, Flame.”
The redhead sniffed the air, his gaze drifted to Zandy and he sighed before addressing Tiger again. “You should talk to her. She’s obviously new.”
“I’ve got her.”
Flame jerked his head in understanding and spun. “Let’s take Vengeance home.”
The two officers holding Vengeance had handcuffed his hands behind his back and lifted him into the back of the Jeep. Vengeance snarled and a shiver ran down Zandy’s spine as a pair of cold blue eyes fixed on her. The redheaded officer drove away with their staring prisoner. She bit her lip and released Creek to rush to Tiger’s side. He was holding his face where it was cut.
